Story Lab West and the A.K. Smiley Public Library in Redlands are bringing together Chaffey College and San Bernardino Valley College faculty and student interns to plan and carry out a collaborative oral history project based at the A.K. Smiley Public Library, one that is designed to record interviews with older community members living in Redlands and nearby San Bernardino communities who have witnessed historic events and cultural changes including experiencing the impacts of climate change and covid 19. The interviews will be indexed with the Oral History Metadata Synthesizer (OHMS) and posted on the Smiley Library’ online repository.
I will be facilitating the collaboration between the two colleges and our local library as well as local senior organizations, a challenge to be sure. Before retiring I coordinated a multi-disciplinary project to create an Electronic Career Portfolio Project with students and faculty from Computer Science, Broadcasting, Communication Studies and the new Teaching and Learning Center.
